The NZ Film Premiere of Symphony on Skis, this Friday 24 November at Space Academy in Christchurch.

In September 1985, Gottlieb Braun-Elwert set out on a ski adventure from the Godley Valley to Fox Glacier. On this unsupported 18 hour journey, he and two friends covered over 40km and 4000 vertical meters, crossed 4 major passes and traversed this country’s largest glaciers. He called this route Symphony on Skis, and it is arguably the most spectacular crossing of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

Thirty years on, filmmaker Carla Braun-Elwert pays tribute to her late father and his way of comparing skiing with music. She retraces this route with her sister, mountain guide Elke, her brother-in-law and cameraman Keith, and ski athletes, Axel and Jochen Reiser. Like Gottlieb, they all see the mountains as a place of connection, where each person can be creative in different ways.

Limited Tickets Available from Bivouac, Tower Junction, and Space Academy.
