Methven is the perfect escape for snow lovers and just over one hour’s drive from Christchurch. The alpine-themed village nestled close to the Southern Alps is a tranquil, yet exhilarating, relaxing, yet vibrant place for all tastes and budgets.
Located just an hour's drive from Methven is Porter Heights and Mount Cheeseman, two family friendly ski areas. Traveling further past these two mountains is Broken River, Craigieburn, Mount Olympus and Temple Basin, all of which are located in the Selwyn District. Venturing south from Methven the first Chill mountain, an hour and a half away is Fox Peak with terrain suited for all skiing levels.

Their premium snow sport store, located in the European Chalet is home to a huge RETAIL and RENTAL range (including tow rope harnesses!). A comprehensive workshop of experienced ski technicians and boot fitters will have your gear in top shape whether you’re hitting rails, skinning mountains or racing courses!

Methven Heliski celebrates 30 years in 2016. Guided by Alpine Guides, Methven Heli has arguably the best range of heliski terrain in NZ, with 250+ named runs in the Arrowsmith, Ragged, and Palmer Ranges. Groups rarely cross lines after leaving the helipad at Glenfalloch Station, only meeting up for a delicious lunch, or drinks at the end of the day. The terrain features glaciated runs, views of both the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea - and drops exceeding 1,000 vertical metres!
