In 2025, the Chill Season Pass is available, plus the Chill Travel Pass and Chill 30 Day Pass.
Chill Travel Passes are on sale in early 2025 and allows for a choice of 5 or 7 days skiing across 12 ski areas, plus Non-Ski Day Offers including accommodation, and lessons. -
Chill Season Pass accesses: Rainbow, Mt Lyford, Hanmer Springs, Cheeseman, Broken River, Temple Basin, Mt Olympus, Awakino, Fox Peak, Mt Dobson, Craigieburn,* Porters, and Tukino.
*Access to Craigieburn is limited to midweek only, unless you are staying in their lodge over the weekend.

The Chill Season Pass does not have any non ski day offers, it's purely a season pass. We welcome your feedback if you'd like the season pass extended to include non-ski day offers. -
Go on, try biking to us and you can bring your bike in the front door. We also service bikes so you can leave it with us.
If you are in a vehicle there is parking available on both Armagh St and Gloucester St, plus the Art Gallery with underground parking.
Alternatively try free parking around Cranmer Square or Hagley Park. If you are stopping for 10 min there is a free park directly across the road outside the Old Provincial Chambers on Durham St. -
Yes, we do. This was introduced in 2016 and is available as an Adult Season Pass only and must be purchased at the same time as a Youth and/or a Junior Pass. We require proof of this in the form of a birth certificate to issue the Parent Pass. The Parent Pass has the same unlimited access as the Adult Season Pass.

Yes you both get a pass and you can access the ski areas when you want, together or independently.

The 30 day consecutive pass is only for lift access, no accommodation is on offer. You can use a Travel Pass of 7 or 5 days to use toward mountain lodge accommodation.

We may require written proof of eligibility for the Youth or Junior Pass, if this is the case we will contact you. -
No, to qualify for a student pass you must be enrolled in a full-time course of study at a New Zealand or Australian institution.

In order to be eligible for a student pass you need to be in full-time study with a New Zealand Tertiary Education provider at the time of the ski season (semester 2). You must prove to us that you are enrolled full time (a student ID is not sufficient proof). We accept internal transcripts or a letter from the registry stating your enrollment details.

We begin to issue passes in May/June. If you have paid for postage we will send them out to you provided we have received your photo or have a previous year’s photo on file.
If you have elected to pick up your pass we will let you know when they are ready via our newsletter, website and social media channels.
Please note: If you have purchased a student pass you will need to come in to pick up your pass so we can see proof of full-time enrollment. Alternatively, you can email us your proof of enrollment and you can pay to have your pass couriered. -

Yes, if you wish to upgrade your pass you can and will only pay the difference between the passes.
Please note that you will pay the difference in face value from when you purchased your pass if you decide to upgrade and a $20 administration fee applies. -
No, we recommend that you do if you're on a full season's pass, but you can hire them on the mountain as per their terms and conditions. We also have a limited number available for rent in-store, you can book rental gear.

Yes, if you're a season pass holder you can ski up to two mountains in any one day. If you are a Travel Pass holder you will use one of your days each time you track in. So if you choose to ski two mountains in one day you will use two of your total number of days. Check out our Mountain page for more information on where the mountains on the Chill Pass are located and what you can expect.

No, you need to pay for your pass before the specified date no matter what payment method you have selected when ordering your pass. E.g. If you come in to Chill HQ to pay for your pass after 31 May the In-Season price will apply.

We offer a Senior Rate people 65 and older. You must be 65 years or older at 21 August 2025.

Ski areas like Mt Lyford and Hanmer Springs have both rope tows with nutcrackers and other tows (platter/T-bar). This gives you a chance to try it out and cross between the different tows during the day.
For the other ski areas like Broken River, Craigieburn. Temple Basin, Mt Olympus, Fox Peak. You can mention to the staff you're a newbie and they may assist with a few good tips. -
Glove protectors are a leather sleeve with a built-in thumb. You wear them over the top of your gloves. If you're going to be riding rope tows you either need glove protectors or extremely tough gloves. Normal gloves won't last long!
We sell glove protectors and Kincos gloves which are tougher than most, available online. -
A Parent Pass is a full season pass for any parent who also purchases a a Youth and/or Junior Pass. Both parents can purchase a Parent Pass as long as at least one Youth or Junior Pass is also purcahsed (the exception being if you have children 5 or younger).

Yes, we record the pass use at each ski area to allocate the funds across them. We are using a digital tracking system which is speeding the process up, however with the variety of ski areas (in size and facilities) some still ask for you to record your pass# manually (Fox Peak, Awakino). For the larger resorts like Porters there is a specific ticket location.

Christchurch is a very ride-able city. The speed limit for motorised vehicles (cars) in the city is 30km per hour. We recommend riding on the many shared paths and cycleways wherever possible.

Yes, New Zealand law requires that cyclists wear a helmet. We provide these for our tours & hires at no extra cost.

Yes we are happy to. It will either be safe with one of our team at the studio or locked up if we are all out on tour.

Flat shoes and comfortable clothes you can ride in. In cooler weather a light rain jacket is a good idea, as are gloves. If you want to carry water or other items please bring a backpack.

In case of rain the bike tour will be changed to a walking tour, umbrellas can be provided by Chill.

1 Day Hire means pick up at 8am and drop off at 5:00pm, it does not mean 24 hours. You can keep the bike overnight for a small additional charge.

Please select the minimum hire duration that you need the bike for and let us know in the comments that you may keep it longer. We can confirm arrangements when you pick up the bike.
If you would like to hire a bike long-term (for example for a month) please contact us with your dates and we will confirm the rate and availability. -
We recommend to book your preferred bike online, so that it will be ready for you to ride when you turn up. You can also come into our store and have a look at the range of bikes that is available for that day and choose your bike.

Yes, we can give you a short introduction on how to ride a bike before the hire. To get used to the bike we recommend to try it out in Hagley Park, away from the traffic.

Bikes hired by Chill must be returned by the hirer in the same condition that it was hired. We allow for wear and tear, including wear on brakes, tires and small running issues.
Bikes returned that require new equipment and/or significant repair are at the cost of the hirer. Bikes that are stolen are the responsibility and cost of the hirer. Bikes that are not able to be repaired are at the cost of the hirer.
A credit card is taken at the time of hire as security for return of the bike. Any costs associated with the repair, loss or damage to the bike at the time of the hire will be charged on the credit card. A report on the bike condition and required repair will be presented to the hirer for consideration.
